Stop Comparing Yourself To Others And Live Your Own Life

Stop Comparing Yourself To Others And Live Your Own Life

When talking with a new client or lifter - whether for strength, conditioning, athletic performance, or general fitness - one conversation continues to come up.

“I’ll never be like (comparison)”

”I could never do (comparison)”

And they’re right, to an extent. The current version of yourself can’t hit that PR, run that race, or lose the extra pounds. Comparisons get in the way. Excuses, past failures, sometimes even a lack of self-confidence can sabotage even the most dedicated of people.

Great news! This is normal. You’ve heard this before: If it were easy, everyone would do it.

There is an answer. STOP COMPARING YOURSELF. We can all find inspiration in those around us, people we aspire to be like, and we all have an ideal version of where our journey takes us. The key here is to compare yourself to who you will become. You will evolve. Compare yourself - as you are, right now - to who you will be in a month, 6 months, a year from now.

Social media has done a lot for fitness, both good and bad. Be mindful of comparing yourself to the highlight reels being put out there. No one sees the behind the scenes - the hard work, early mornings, long nights, marathon training sessions, and the daily grind that goes into that ideal image. On the other side, no one sees the mistakes, the failed attempts, the hardships, and missed opportunities.

But you know yours. You know how much went into this because you earned it. You earned who you will become. When you DO hit that milestone - and you WILL - look at where you started. No one can take that from you, and that’s the only comparison to be concerned about.
